About
A consulting firm organized around delivery
SAC combines internal leadership with a flexible network of specialized professionals, assembled according to what each engagement actually requires.
Our purpose
Why the firm exists
Organizations rarely fail for lack of good intentions. They struggle at the points where intention has to become structure — where a priority needs a governance decision, where a modernization plan needs sequencing, where a program needs to prove it works, and where staff need capability they were never given.
Strategic Advancement Consulting was established to work at exactly those points. We help organizations strengthen strategy, modernize operations, build capacity and measure impact — and we stay involved through the implementation stage, where most initiatives lose momentum.
We are based in Detroit, Michigan and work with federal, state and local government agencies, prime contractors, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions and businesses.
Operating model
How the firm is structured
SAC is deliberately built as a compact core with deep reach, rather than a large fixed organization. This is the honest description of how we operate.
A small internal core
SAC is led by an internal team that owns client relationships, engagement design, quality and delivery accountability. Every engagement has a named lead who remains responsible from scoping through closeout.
A multidisciplinary expert network
Beyond the core team, SAC maintains access to more than 40 subject-matter experts spanning strategy and governance, AI and data, technology and cybersecurity, program management, education, training, research and evaluation, and risk and compliance.
Teams assembled per engagement
When a scope of work is defined, we assemble the specific combination of expertise it requires. A governance review, an AI readiness assessment and a program evaluation call for different people, and we staff them accordingly.
Scaled up or down deliberately
The model lets SAC take on engagements that require genuine specialization without carrying that capability as permanent overhead — and lets clients access senior expertise for the period they actually need it.
A note on terminology. Members of the expert network are engaged on a project basis according to engagement requirements and are not all full-time employees of the firm. We describe network members as project-based subject-matter experts because that is what they are.
Our approach
Strategic thinking, specialized expertise, practical implementation
Four commitments shape how we run engagements, regardless of practice area or client type.
We start from evidence
Before recommending a structure, a system or a program, we establish how the organization actually operates — how decisions are made, where work stalls, what the existing data shows, and what capacity exists to sustain change. Recommendations built on assumption rather than observation fail predictably.
We work alongside leadership
Strategy and governance work that leadership did not help shape rarely survives the next budget cycle. Our facilitation approach is designed so the people accountable for delivery own the decisions that come out of it, and can defend them internally.
We design for the organization that exists
A framework appropriate to a large institution can be actively harmful in a twenty-person organization. We calibrate formality, complexity and cost to the client's size, sector, regulatory environment and capacity to sustain what we put in place.
Values
What we hold ourselves to
Say what the evidence supports
We report findings plainly, including inconvenient and inconclusive ones. Overstated conclusions damage the credibility of the client far more than they help us.
Scope to what can be delivered
Recommendations are calibrated to the budget, capacity and constraints that actually exist. Advice the organization cannot act on is not advice.
Build for handover
Documentation, training and operating procedures are part of the work. We aim to leave the organization able to run what we built without us.
Be direct about fit
If an engagement sits outside what we can deliver to standard, we say so before it starts rather than after. That candor is the basis of the relationships we want.
