Strategy, Governance & Organizational Performance

We help leadership teams set direction, establish sound governance, and build the operating discipline that turns strategy into delivered work.

Why organizations engage us

Most organizations do not lack ideas about where they want to go. What they lack is an agreed set of priorities, a governance structure that supports decisions, and a way to tell whether the work is progressing. Plans stall in the gap between an approved document and the daily operating reality of the organization.

Our work sits squarely in that gap. We help leadership teams decide what matters, put the governance and operating structures in place to support those decisions, and establish the measurement discipline that keeps attention on results.

How we work

We start with evidence rather than assumption. Before recommending a structure or a plan, we look at how the organization actually runs — how decisions get made, where authority is ambiguous, which processes create rework, and what the existing data already indicates.

We then work alongside leadership rather than presenting from outside it. Strategy documents that leaders did not help shape rarely survive contact with the budget cycle. Our facilitation approach is designed so the people accountable for delivery own the priorities that come out of it.

Finally, we design for the organization that exists. A governance framework appropriate to a fifteen-person nonprofit is not the framework appropriate to a multi-campus institution or a public agency operating under statutory requirements. We calibrate the level of formality to the organization’s size, sector, regulatory environment and capacity to sustain it.

Typical engagements

  • A nonprofit board that needs a multi-year strategic plan and a governance framework that clarifies board and executive responsibilities
  • A public-sector program office that needs its processes documented, streamlined and supported by a performance reporting cycle
  • An educational institution establishing institutional policies, committee structures and an operating model as it grows
  • A business that has outgrown informal decision-making and needs defined roles, delegated authority and a management reporting rhythm

What we do not do

We do not deliver a strategy document and leave. Where an engagement stops at planning, we say so up front and structure the handover accordingly. Where implementation support is in scope, we stay through the first review cycles so the framework is tested against real operating conditions before we step back.

Engagement approach

How an engagement typically runs

The sequence varies with scope, but these stages are consistent across the practice.

  1. 01

    Assess

We establish the baseline — how the organization is structured, how decisions are made, where work stalls, and what the evidence already shows.

  2. 02

    Define

We work with leadership to set priorities that can actually be resourced, and to write them down in language the organization can act on.

  3. 03

    Design

We build the supporting structure: governance, policies, operating model, roles, processes and the indicators that will track progress.

  4. 04

    Implement

We convert the plan into sequenced initiatives with owners, milestones and review points, and support leadership through the first cycles.

  5. 05

    Measure

We put a reporting rhythm in place so performance is reviewed on a schedule rather than reconstructed at year end.
